Shaunavon Silhouettes were on the road to Maple Creek before Christmas.  They won 45-26 over the hometown Maple Creek Rebelles. 

Top scorer from that game, for Shaunavon, was Charlene Hoffarth (27 points) and top scorer for Maple Creek was Keya Davis with 8 points.

In our first week back, we had senior leaguedouble headers in two gyms on Tuesday, January 8.  The Shaunavon Silhouettes (Charlene Hoffarth 22 points, Kamryn Brown 7 points) defeated the Herbert Laurels (Irelynd Haughian 13 points, Shyler Chartier11 points) by a score of 46-42.  Maple Creek Rebelles (Keya Davis 16 points, Morgan Bock 8 points) came out on the losing end of a 64-39 score against the Swift Current Jr. Ardens (Katie Hudec 16 points, Hailey Klimm 12 points).

In senior boys action Shaunavon (Austin Smith 27 points, Codee Smith 23 points) won against Gull Lake (Ian Mittleholtz 18 points, Anthony Lamarre and Branson Woodward 7 points each) by the score of 82-47.  The Frontier Raiders (Brody Dumontel 30 points, Frank Knelsen 27 points) improved their record with a win over the Maple Creek Rebels (Alex Fritzke 13 points, Michael Mudingayi12 points).  The final score was 104-38.

Our Junior SWAC Basketball league also started up quickly in the New Year.  In junior girls action SCCHS gr 9 girls beat Wymark girls 61-30on a rare Tuesday night game.  The Wymark girls then played Shaunavon later in the week and won 73-27 and the SC Gr 9 girls defeated Waldeck 61-41.

The junior boys were also busy with a couple games.  The Maple Creek boys won over Shaunavon (54-46) and the Swift Current Gr 9 Colts defeated the Gull Lake Lions junior team.

Basketball league game times are set for 5:30 (and 7 p.m., if there is a double header at the host site).  Schools may adjust those start times or who plays first, so make sure to check at your school before heading out to a game.

Senior league games on Tuesday, January 15, Maple Creek will host the Herbert Girls and Swift Current Junior Colts.  In girl’s league play, the Shaunavon Silhouettes will be on the road to Swift Current and Frontier Raiders will host the Gull Lake Lions in boy’s action.

Junior games this week include a Wednesday, January 16 match up with Maple Creek Redmentraveling to play the SC Grade 9 Colts.  On Thursday, January 17, Swift Current grade 9’s will host both Shaunavon teams, Waldeck girls will be in Wymark and Maple Creek boys will host Gull Lake.


I am in the final stages of making the draws for our SWAC Championships.  Completed draws will be sent to teams and posted on SWAC Sports Facebook /twitter/Instagram.

Senior Sectional Playoffs will be held on Feb 1st-2nd. Cypress Hills will be competing in Fox Valley and Rolling Hills will be in Ponteix. Whitemud’s playoff date in Shaunavon is TBD.  

Junior Sectional Playoffs will be held on February 8-9.  Cypress Hills plays off in Leader, Rolling Hills in Herbert and Whitemud in Frontier.
