Elmwood celebrating its history with grand re-opening

Elmwood Golf Club in Swift Current is celebrating their 100th anniversary and grand reopening July 5-7.

Plans include a Friday evening social mixer at the clubhouse, a 2-day mixed alternate shot golf tournament, a ribbon cutting ceremony and an outdoor cabaret on the driving range Saturday evening. All events are open to the public.

Elmwood Golf Club opened in 1919 (originally known as the Swift Current Golf Club) as a private 9-hole course. Many changes have taken place over the years including moving the layout from the Ashley Park area to its current location.  The clubhouse was once The Webb interpretive Centre and was moved to Elmwood by truck in 1991.

In 2014 the Board, supported by the membership, proposed an entire course renovation.  Driven by the necessity to improve their greens, Elmwood hired Golf Design Services; GDS and Les Furber.

To facilitate the project, Elmwood Golf Club and the City of Swift Current entered into a unique partnership that created the new 82 lot housing development Cypress Point.

Despite the challenges of a four-year construction project, Elmwood staff continued to provide exceptional service.  Elmwood Golf Club was awarded the SCBEX Award for Best Medium Size Business and the CPGA Future Links Facility of the Year Canada in 2017. Their staff have also been recognized recently as well.  Teaching Professional; Jeff Chambers was named the 2018 PGA of Canada Coach of the Year and Brennan Rumancik their new Head Professional was the PGA of Saskatchewan Player of the Year in 2018 as well.

Currently, there are 495 members, an active men’s and ladies morning league, regularly full 9 hole Monday Men’s Night, Tuesday Ladies night and 18 hole Wednesday Men’s Night.  There are 134 local kids registered in junior lessons this year. Elmwood is proud to have the only indoor, state of the art, year-round hitting facility in Saskatchewan, home to the Jeff Chambers Golf Academy. The clubhouse restaurant is known for its outstanding cuisine and spectacular view. It’s open to the public and can also be booked for private functions.

Elmwood Golf Club looks forward to celebrating 100 years on July 5, 6 and 7th and welcomes the community to join them.

“We are so proud to be celebrating not only our historic 100-year anniversary as well as being able to welcome everyone to see our renovated golf course at the same time.  I think we have a great weekend lined up for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re a golfer or not.  We invite everyone to come out and celebrate this special weekend with us at Elmwood” said Darcy Congdon President Elmwood Golf Club.
