The Swift Current Broncos completed a trade with the Edmonton Oil Kings on Thursday, dealing 20-year-old forward Andrew Fyten for a conditional fifth-round selection in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft.
This season, Fyten served as an alternate captain for the Broncos and has enjoyed a productive start to the 2018-19 season, recording 17 points (8g-9a) in 27 contests.
Fyten joined the Broncos prior to the 2018 WHL Trade Deadline via trade with the Calgary Hitmen. The 6'1, 188lb forward tallied seven points (3g-4a) in 29 regular season games last year and added six points (2g-4a) in 25 playoff games en route to helping the Broncos capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL Champions.
A native of Sundre, AB, Fyten was originally drafted by the Everett Silvertips in the fifth round, 108th overall in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft and has collected 59 points (25g-34a) in 211 career regular season games.
The Swift Current Broncos also announced on Thursday morning that the club has signed forward Dawson Springer to a WHL Standard Player Agreement.
Springer was originally listed by the Everett Silvertips and the Broncos acquired the 16-year-old forward from the Silvertips in a trade on December 3rd, 2018 in which 19-year-old forward Max Patterson was sent the other way.
The Yorkton, SK product is currently playing for the Prince Albert Mintos of the SMHL and has registered 28 points (19g-9a) in 26 games to date.
Springer will join the Broncos in their road contest as a call up in time for the Broncos road game against the Prince Albert Raiders on December 15th at the Art Hauser Centre. He will then return to the Mintos as the Broncos and the rest of the Western Hockey League head into the Christmas break.
