The 6th annual Young Ranchman’s All Breeds Livestock Show took place in Swift Current, Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. The event started on Aug. 31 with the public speaking competition in the training centre at the Pattison Agriculture dealership. The remaining activities took place at Kinetic Exhibition Park. The event drew 145 participants from Alberta and Saskatchewan, and there were even two participants from Australia. The event provided an opportunity for youth up to the age of 21 years with an interest in livestock and agriculture to develop skills and knowledge through showmanship and team grooming competitions, while an open entry prospect steer show and a conformation show for different breed classes also took place during the weekend. Participants were able to express their creativity in the art and photography contests, and there were educational workshops. The show included the Little Ranchers program with learning opportunities in a fun environment for children eight years and younger. This year's Little Ranchers theme was soil and grass, and they learned about soil erosion on farms, the different plants in the prairie ecosystem, and the importance of grazing plans.
