Rotary Club of Swift Current helps high school music department

The Rotary Club of Swift Current has made a donation of $1,500 to the Swift Current Comprehensive High School Music Department in support of their annual Rotary Jazz Retreat in the Cypress Hills. Pictured, Rotary Club President Don Grad presents the cheque to Grade 12 student Aleah Nickel, Jan. 16. Behind them are students representing all three auditioned jazz ensembles within the music department. The Senior Jazz Band is directed by Janine Waines, while the Vocal Jazz Ensemble and the Chamber Singers are directed by Brianna Dennehy. The Rotary Jazz Retreat takes place in the Cypress Hills from Feb. 8-10. Students from all three ensembles will participate in intensive rehearsals with guest clinicians Greg McLean of Swift Current and Stewart Sladden of Winnipeg. The jazz retreat is one of a number of projects sponsored by the Rotary Club of Swift Current with funds raised at its annual Lobsterfest. The next Lobsterfest will take place April 13.
