The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) will host their closest geographical rivals, the Drumheller Dragons, in their 2018-19 home opener on Friday, September 21st, it was announced by the league today.
The Bandits will open their 2018-19 national championship hosting year with road games in Drumheller on Friday, September 14th and Calgary to take on the Canucks on Sunday, September 16th, before opening up the home schedule with back-to-back games against Drumheller and Camrose the following weekend.
The 29-game home schedule will feature 13 Friday night games, 10 Saturday nights, two Holiday Monday games, one holiday Tuesday game, and three Wednesday games. The monthly split sees three September home dates, five each in October, November, December, and January, six in February, and one in March.
The Bandits will host the rival Okotoks Oilers in a rematch of last year’s South Division Final on Thanksgiving Monday, October 8th, at 4 PM. Other holiday games include New Year’s Day on Tuesday, January 1st when the Bandits host the Oilers again, and the team’s annual Family Day game on Monday, February 18th, hosting the Calgary Mustangs.
The team will play each South division team three times at home and three times away, with most North teams once at home and once away. Brooks will have extra matchups with Drayton Valley and Whitecourt this season courtesy of the AJHL Showcase in Camrose, when the team will take on the Thunder on Friday, September 28th and the Wolverines on Saturday, September 29th.
For the first time, the Bandits will be inviting local schools to help pack the CRA for a special Wednesday afternoon game on November 21st at noon, hosting Drayton Valley. Further details on this special new event will be released over the course of the summer.
The Bandits will play a six-game exhibition schedule this season, with home-and-home series with the Calgary Canucks, Okotoks Oilers, and Drumheller Dragons. Home dates will be Tuesday, August 28th against the Canucks, Saturday, September 1st against the Oilers, and Saturday, September 8th against the Dragons.
