International Female Ride Day is being held May 4, and women who ride a motorcycle are encouraged to join in and go for a ride that morning.

The event will kick off at Badlands Harley in Dunmore with a free breakfast at 9 a.m. and then the group of women will take off for a ride together before coming back to the Hat.

“This is something that’s done internationally and it was started in 2008,” said media relations head Heather McCaig. “It encourages women to take part in Canada and all over the world.

“We’re holding this ride like we do every year and we’re hoping lots of people come out.”

McCaig says women will be coming in for the event from Saskatchewan and they will ride alongside the Hat bikers for the day.

The bikers will ride to Wayne, get lunch and then circle back to that Hat.

“We hope to see a lot of people out but we know it’s a lot about the weather,” said McCaig. “On days with nice weather we see a great crowd, and it’s full of people will different skill levels.”

“Everyone is welcome and we want them to know that,” she said. “We make sure to travel in a group and to go at a speed where everyone is comfortable.

“We try to take care of everyone who comes out and we welcome all makes and models of bikes.”

McCaig says the ride is looked forward to by many riders in the area.

“I think a lot of people think that motorcycles are for men, but we have such a large community and we want to get everyone together,” she said. “We want people to know that there’s always someone out there you can ride with.”
