RCMP investigating phone number tampering

The Redcliff RCMP phone number has been spoofed, and Redcliff citizens who receive ‘prank’ calls from 403-548-2222 should report to 611.

Monday (April 22) night at 11 p.m., the Southern Alberta Operational Communication Centre became inundated with calls from residents of Redcliff reporting that they had missed a call from Redcliff RCMP. The number showing up is 403-548-2222 which is the Redcliff RCMP complaint line. If the call is answered nobody is on the other end and the line disconnects.

If you receive a call from this number and nobody identifies themselves as an RCMP employee it is most likely that your number was dialled by whoever or whatever has taken over this number. If you received a call from this number and no message was left from an RCMP employee assume the same.

The RCMP have been in touch with Telus support who have advised that customers should report the occurrence to 611 (this will work for any and all providers). This way Telus can attempt to track where the calls are coming from.

If you should require police assistance or are experiencing an emergency please contact 911.

This situation is being investigated. An update will be provided when the situation has resolved.
