Swift Current Germany's Andrea Schoepp, 45, last won world gold back in 1988 in Glasgow, Scotland. She pulled out another golden win in Swift Current last week, beating Scotland 8-6 in the extra end. The characteristically intense Schoepp was nothing but smiles that night. "Ya, of course, great. We had a really good game ... we felt well, we had a good feeling coming here, and it worked out," she said. And this is not the last we’ll see of Schoepp. "Get it once more, I think that's the next goal. Maybe I can take the next 20 years and make it again. I think that would be a record," she said. Germany came to the worlds after a disappointing 6th place finished at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. "I don't care about the Olympics, I just care about here," Schoepp said. And care she did. After a miss that could have cost her the game in the 10th end, Schoepp held it together better than Scotland’s Eve Muirhead to take the win. "In the 10th end, my first idea was just to play in the left side and leave the right side just alone, and I think that was completely the right idea. (Muirhead) was unlucky ... she had a lot of luck during the whole game, I think, but in the 10th she was really unlucky so it was pay back, and I made her a big present, I think, because she couldn't have missed it,” she said. |
