Courtesy Great Plains College Saskatchewan On March 2, the Great Plains College SunDogs Men’s Basketball team took to the court with high hopes of bringing home the coveted Southwest Cup in the annual Battle of the Southwest against the Millar College Edge. This was the first time that the basketball showcase was held in Swift Current and it was a high energy event. Despite a lot of back and forth action, Millar Edge finished triumphed with a 87–54 score. “The SunDogs poured their hearts into this game and played their best. However we haven’t had a lot of court time together as a team yet, and I think that was our downfall”, says Coach Devin Loeppky. The Battle is only the beginning of the season for the Men’s SunDogs team. They have 3 weekend tournaments left this year – March 5-6 at Millar College, March 19-20 is the Prairie Athletic Conference Provincials, and on March 26-27 they will compete in the Western Canadian College Open. “We are very pleased with the SunDogs effort at the Battle, and look forward to seeing what they are capable of once they have had more opportunities to play together”, says Athletics Coordinator Meaghan Lawrence. Sundogs team listings, latest scores and upcoming games will be found on Great Plains College’s website www.greatplainscollege.ca /sundogs_varsity_athletics.
