By Sabine Zocher Southwest Saskatchewan In celebration of the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, and as part of this year’s Racism: Spot It & Stop It project, the Newcomer Welcome Centre is offering a region-wide poster contest.
Students ages five through 20 are asked to create a poster illustrating a positive message focused on eliminating discrimination and racism.
The rules are simple. All submitted artwork must be original work, and should be no bigger than the size of a standard poster board (22 in. x 28 in.) or smaller than 9 in. x 12 in.
Submissions will be judged by local art teachers, artists, community leaders and members of the local media. Participants must drop off their artwork before March 11 at 5 p.m. at the Newcomer Welcome Centre.
There is $1,000 in prizes to be won and the 12 winning posters will be exhibited at the Lyric Theatre on March 21 as part of the project’s final event.
