More than $4 million dollars total was raised by Telemiracle last weekend. Breaking it down piece by piece, it is the small efforts made by groups and organizations across Saskatchewan.

One group from Swift Current sang their hearts out at Telemiracle on Sunday and even had the opportunity to sing with Bob McGrath as they presented a cheque worth more than $2,000.

Days before Telemiracle, the Central School Choir showcased their talents in Swift Current.

The annual talent show, hosted by the choir, was their the third fundraising event held in Swift Current and elevated their total raised to $2,300.

The talent show drew a full house in the Central School auditorium March 3rd.

Parents and teachers showcased the many talents of the Central School students including singing, dancing, and gymnastics as well as performances on piano, guitar, violin and recorder.

The Swift Current Belly Dancers even made an appearance at the talent show.

The students love it when the teachers and parents perform with the them, said Celia Hammerton, Central School Choir instructor.

Helping others any way you can was the message delivered to the students and audience as they practiced and performed their Telemiracle song “lend a helping hand.”

This was the second time in four years the Central School Choir has performed at Telemiracle.
It is an opportunity to educate the kids, noted Hammerton.

“We do a presentation for the kids on Telemiracle,” she explained and plans are in the works to invite families who have benefited from the funds to talk to the students about their experiences.

“That would really help them to understand the kind of ways the money is used and how it really does help people,” she added.

Women all over the world gathered earlier in the week to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Nearly 40 years ago she began sharing her music and messages with the world and her song Universal Soldier became an anthem for the peace movement.

We have to better understand history in order to better the future, she told the audience of women gathered at the Living Sky Casino Sky Centre.

Men must also understand women and women have to better understand men, because the genetic brains are programmed differently.

“Let’s never fail to celebrate and be happy for what has already been accomplished by so many,” Sainte-Marie began, her presentation.

“There is no time for bitterness, there is too much to be done.”

“Let bitterness go for a moment, let the guilt go for a moment,” and take what is bad, turn it into “fertilizer and grow something new.”

March 8 marked the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day.

The early 1900s was a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialized world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies, describes the International Women’s Day website.

In 1910, the idea of an International Women’s Day was developed so every year in every country there should be a celebration on the same day to press for women’s demands.

Sainte-Marie was invited by Swift Current’s International Women’s  groupr
