The Calgary RCMP Major Crimes Unit along with the Brooks RCMP have been aggressively investigating the death of John Terris. To date, investigators have determined that John Terris had at one time lived in Calgary, Alberta and after having moved back to Brooks, Alberta was known to frequent the City of Calgary on a regular basis.

Investigators have received two pieces of information they would like to share with the public in order to move the investigation forward:

On November 30th, 2009 Brooks RCMP received an unsigned letter which had been mailed from Calgary, Alberta. Investigators would like to speak with the author of that letter to obtain more details regarding its contents. The contents of the letter cannot be revealed at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation, but investigators feel the writer of the letter has valuable information in respect to this murder.

On January 25th, 2010 an anonymous caller called the Brooks RCMP with information in relation to this investigation. Due to the information provided by the caller, investigators believe the call originated from the City of Calgary. Investigators would like the caller to phone again with further details. Contents of the message cannot be disclosed to protect the integrity of the investigation.

The RCMP is continuing the investigation and is keen to speak with the person(s) who wrote the letter and made the phone call. On November 12th, 2009 John Terris was found critically injured inside his residence in Brooks, Alberta. He was airlifted to a Calgary Hospital where later that day he was pronounced dead. John Terrisdied as a result of a gunshot wound.
