It was a long distance to travel for Jeff Jago and Tyler Dickie to take their 16U men’s junior SunDogs’ volleyball team, but it turned out to be well worth it.

The 16U Men’s Jr. Sundogs earned a gold medal from the Sask. Cup No. 2 tournament in Prince Albert. They went undefeated in all seven matches during the April 2-3 weekend with only three games lost culminating in winning the championship in style after losing the first game to Saskatoon HVC 20-25. They won the next two games relatively easy (on paper) 25-11, 15-8. Here’s the match results: April 2: Lloyd Minster Rustlers — 25-18, 25-15; North Battleford Lightning — 25-10, 25-17; Regina Renegades — 25-15, 25-10; Saskatoon JCVC Black —25-9, 25-17; April 3: PA Smashing Bananas 16 U — 25-22, 12-25, 15-9; semi final: Saskatoon JCVC Black —25-17, 25-22; gold medal: Saskatoon HVC —20-25, 25-11, 15-8.
They now head to provincials April 29 in Saskatoon ranked #1 in the province.
15U Women
Coaches Tiffany Powell, Kenzie Hantelman and Sydney Thomas watched as their 15 U Women’s team took second place in Division 2, Tier 1 in Lloydminster at the Subway Sask. Cup last weekend.
They beat Regina QCVC Purple Storm 25-17, 25-7; Lloydminster Rustlers Green 25-4, 25-8; Saskatoon Tron 25-8, 25-20; 25-7, 25-13 on April 2, but April 3 they had a tougher day. They beat West Central Smash 18-25, 26-24, 15-7; Saskatoon HVC White 25-19, 23-25 and 15-3, but ran out of gas in the final losing 25-18, 22-25 and 5-15 to Rose Valley.
14U Women
Jr. Sundogs 14U Women Team Black also finished with a respectable Tier 1 bronze medal at the Moose Jaw Element April 2-3.
Coaches Liam Choo Foo and Travis Kelln saw their team not win the gold, but the team gutted out a match win following shortly afterwards, which can do nothing but help them as the season continues on.
They lost a hard-fought and heart-breaking three-game semi final ECVC Royal Renegades to regulate them to the bronze medal match versus the LAC Thunder.
