Badminton teams start the season in Ponteix, Rosetown

On Saturday March 12, the Swift Current Comp. High School badminton team attended their first tournaments in Ponteix and Rosetown.


The tournament results were:
Ponteix
• Boys’ singles — Jayden Haubrich (Grade 11) finished third in his pool with a record of 1-3.
• Girls’ singles — Jezrel Soriano (Grade 10) finished third in the round robin with a record of 3-2. Jessica Warren (Gr. 10) finished second in the round robin with a record of 4-1. She lost to Frontier in the final and was awarded the silver medal in girls singles.
• Boys’ doubles — Emmett Guider (Grade 10) and Mason Smeby (Grade 10) finished second in their pool with a record of 2-2. They won their semi final versus Ponteix 21-10 and 21-16. They lost to Gravelbourg in the final 15-21 and 15-21 and were awarded the silver medal in boys’ doubles.
• Girls’ doubles — Lindsey Chabot (Grade 10) and Lara New (Grade 9) finished with a 2-4 record in the round robin.
• Mixed doubles — Kahlan Ellertson (Grade 12) and Tyler Wall (Grade 12) finished third in their pool with a record of 3-2.
Rosetown
• Boys’ singles — Sim Singh (Grade 11) finished first in his pool with a 3-0 record. He won his semi final versus Rosetown 21-9 and 21-17. He lost his final game to North Battleford 21-19, 12-21 and 19-21. He was awarded the silver medal in boys’ singles.
• Girls’ singles — Callie Kay-Macmillan (Grade 11) finished second in the girls singles pool with a record of 3-1. She won her semi-final versus Biggar 20-22, 24-22 and 21-4. She lost her final game to Unity and was awarded the silver medal in girls’ singles.
• Boys’ doubles — Nolan Klein (Grade 9) and Grady Rogers (Grade 9) finished third in their pool with a record of 1-2. Cole Bissonnette (Grade 12) and Ryker Johnson (Grade 12) finished second in their pool with a record of 2-1. They won their semi-final versus Rosetown and advanced to the final. They defeated Wilkie in the final 21-17 and 21-12 winning the gold medal in boys’ doubles.
• Girls’ doubles — Shelby Warren (Grade 12) and Sydney Hope (Grade 11) finished the round robin with a record of 1-1. It was a three-way tie for first in the pool. After the points were calculated the girls finished third in the pool and did not advance to playoffs.
• Mixed doubles — Jaylyn Bell (Grade 11) and Ethan Warkentin (Grade 11) finished second in their pool with a record of 2-1. They lost their semi final to Rosetown 21-23 and 19-21. They played Biggar in the bronze medal match and won 21-3 and 21-9.
Next action for badminton players will be March 19 in Gravelbourg and Leader.
