The SWAC district grass green golf championships were held in Maple Creek on Sept. 14.

Although the course was wet from the previous night’s rain and the day was a bit cool, golfers were able to compete in 18 holes of golf without getting rained on.
We had 32 golfers – 28 males, 4 females – from various schools including Swift Current Comp, Fox Valley, Leader, Cabri, Gull Lake, Shaunavon, Vanguard, Ponteix, Waldeck and the host Maple Creek.  In the individual competition, the Swift Current Comp swept the top 3 positions for the boys.  Taylor Kinch shot a 79 to win.
Placing second was Kirk Humphrey shooting an 83 and third was Griffen Wilson with an 85.  The girls’ title was won by Hannah MacNeil of Shaunavon. She shot an 84. Placing second was Claudia Lim from Maple Creek with a score of 108 and third was Taytum Wilkins with a score of 114. We had a number of schools compete for the boys’ title. Capturing the championship was Swift Current Comp with a score of 241.The team consisted of Taylor Kinch, Kirk Humphrey, Griffen Wilson, Jackson Schneider, coaches Carrie Chambers and Palma Miller.  In 2nd was Ponteix with a score of 261. Their team members were Jonas Sadden, T.J. Kendall,  Robert Lacher, Keegan Goffinet and coach Jo-Ann Sadden. Third place with a score of 291 went to the team from Fox Valley which was comprised of Aden Hudec, Bobby Hudec, Kage Hellman, Patrick Ehnisz and coach Darren Lehmann. The top 3 individuals as well as Swift Current Comp boys team and Shaunavon girls team will now attend the SHSAA provincial grass green golf championships in Yorkton on Sept. 25/26. Thanks to Maple Creek golf course, Maple Creek Comp and commissioner Tyson Krause for hosting the district championship!
SWAC did not hold a district sand green championship as Frontier was the only school participating.  But they will be sending a team to provincials.
Sydney Onerheim, Avery Evenson, Taron Ham, Ben Dumontel, Landon Jarmon, Kendall Shirley and coach Gail Balfour will be off to Punnichy (hosted by Raymore) on Sept 25/26 for SHSAA provincials. Good luck to all our golfers!
