Sports teams break for the Christmas season

The SWAC senior basketball league got underway Dec. 9 with two girls’ games. 

The Gull Lake Lady Lions hosted Frontier Raiders and came away with a 67-19 victory.  Leading the way for the Lions was Mikayla Hassard (23 points) followed by Shianna Wedrick (13). High scorer for the Raiders was Avery Evenson with eight points.
The other game saw the home team Shaunavon Silhouettes record a 78-25 win over Swift Current Jr Ardens. 
The Silhouettes top scorer was Cassie Hansvall (22 points) followed by Rachel Illerbrun (14). Replying for the Ardens were Christina Chase with six points and Emily Bissonnette with five.
The SWAC junior basketball league started Dec. 11. The Swift Current Grade 9 boys defeated Waldeck 101-38.
Upcoming games include:  Jan. 6 — senior games: Maple Creek girls at Gull Lake; Maple Creek boys at Shaunavon; Shaunavon girls at Frontier; Swift Current Jr Colts at Herbert. Jan. 8 — junior games: Waldeck boys/girls at Swift Current Comp Gr. 9; Shaunavon boys/girls at Frontier; and Wymark girls at Maple Creek.
