A pair of local golfers missed out on their opportunity to represent Saskatchewan in the Canadian Men’s Amateur Golf Championship.

Eston’s Jehremy Ryde, who is working at the Elmwood Golf Club, and Swift Current’s Taylor Smith both had great opening rounds at the Saskatchewan Men’s Amateur Championship but couldn’t hang on for a top-six finish.

Smith shot an impressive 68 (-4) in the first round to sit in second place after the first day. Ryde was only two strokes behind. Both golfers, however, finished in a tie for 16th place with a 19-over 307.

Saskatoon’s Troy Bulmer won the event, which was held at The Legends in Warman.
