Dallin Martin, widely regarded as one of the top high school players in the province, will be in the SunDogs’ lineup this fall as the Great Plains Colleges men’s volleyball team tries to track down its second Prairie Athletic Conference championship in three years.

Martin was the Swift Current Colts’ starting setter from 2007-10 and served as team captain last year, when the Colts entered provincials as the top-ranked team in Saskatchewan. He also played last year on the Junior SunDogs 18-and-under boys’ volleyball team that placed fourth at provincials this year. Travis Cuthbert, who coached Martin throughout his time with the Colts, called Martin a fearless competitor and highly-respected leader amongst his teammates.

"I am excited to be able to stay at home for my first year of university classes and to play for the SunDogs," said Martin.  "Last year's volleyball team finished strong and I am hoping that we can do even better this coming season.  I am also looking forward to playing another year with many of my high school teammates and working with them toward a championship banner for the college."

Martin’s supporting cast will be strong as fellow Colts graduates Colton Siemens, Tyson Dyck, and Darby Zacharias all previously declared their intentions to play for GPC. More recruits will be announced in the coming days.

Dallin is a player who can be a difference-maker on an already strong roster,” said athletics coordinator Mary Jane Benesh. “We’re excited to have him on board and look forward to seeing him make an impact on the PAC in 2011.”
