The Swift Current Indians tied a season-high four-game winning streak and extended their Central Division lead over Moose Jaw to four-and-a-half games after beating the visiting Melville Millionaires 4-3 Wednesday at Mitchell Field.

The winning run was scored in the bottom of the 10th inning when Melville third baseman John Clark bobbled a Sam Stahl grounder, allowing Swift Current catcher Kirk Haviland to score from third.

The game, played before 398 paying spectators, was the first at Mitchell Field after the installation of 518 new seats on Tuesday. It also marked the 99th career regular season win for head coach Joe Carnahan, who holds a 99-44 record since taking over as the Tribe’s bench boss in 2008. Chad Jones picked up the win on the mound, pitching the final two innings in relief of starter Alex Tufts. Shortstop Jack Thompson led the Indians’ hitters on the night going 3-for-4 at the plate.

Swift Current has won nine of its last 12 games and will look to set a season high with its fifth straight win Thursday when it hosts Melville for the second night in a row. Game time, as always, is 7:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field.
