Kirk Haviland showed off his speed in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Swift Current Indians defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 3-2 at Mitchell Field July 4.

The Tribe's catcher led off the bottom of the ninth by ripping a Jason Bennett offering to right-centre field and chugged his way to second base. He advanced to third on a ground ball hit by Luke Barry before scoring on a wild pitch to keep the Indians (15-9) on top of the Central Division.

Swift Current opened the scoring in the third inning with a Parris Austin RBI single. The Indians surrendered a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Max Gordon tied the game in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

Joey Evans picked up his third win of the season after pitching one scoreless inning. Bennett was tagged with the loss.

The win over Moose Jaw (12-13) is exactly how the Indians wanted to open their five-game home stand. It will continue July 6 and 7 when the Melville Millionaires (11-12) pay a visit to Mitchell Field at 7:05 p.m.
