Swift Current

Swift Current Indians outfielders Luke Barry and Brennan Peterson, along with right-handed pitcher Alex Tufts are the WMBL club’s three stars for the week ending July 2. (Players are listed with college/hometown.)

FIRST STAR – Luke Barry (Prairie Baseball Academy/Swift Current, Sask.)

The hometown boy made good this past week, reaching base in nine straight plate appearances over two games to start the week. He finished the week with a .583 batting average in four games, to go along with four walks and three RBI.

SECOND STAR – Brennan Peterson (Fort Hays State U/Central Butte, Sask.)

Named the Indians’ third star last week, Peterson has been arguably the Indians’ most consistent player all year. In five games last week he went 9-for-18 at the plate with five RBI and six runs scored. He also reached base three times on walks and added three stolen bases. Peterson now leads the team and is sixth in the league with a .356 batting average for the season.

THIRD STAR – Alex Tufts (Canisius College/Kentville, N.S.)

Tufts has improved with each start and threw his best game of the year June 30 against Saskatoon, scattering seven hits over seven shutout innings while striking out five Yellow Jackets batters for his first win of the year.
