Swift Current Bronco general manager and head coach Mark Lamb announced that they have acquired netminder, Steffan Soberg sixth overall in the 2011 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.

Soberg, the 5-foot-11, 176-pound Oslo, Norway product recorded a 4.17 goals-against average (GAA) and a .884 save percentage in 27 games played last year in the GET-ligaen with Manglerud Star Ishockey

“He’s a real quick and competitive goalie,” states Lamb. “We are really impressed by his strong work ethic and determination. He’s a ’93 born player so he will fit in perfectly with our team.”

Soberg represented Team Norway at the 2011 IIHF World Under-18 Championship this past spring, where he held a GAA of 3.90 and a save percentage of .931. He was ranked second amongst all netminders in the tournament and was also named Best Player of the Game four out of the six times they played. Additionally, Soberg was named to the Team Norway roster for the 2011 World Under-20 Championship as their back-up netminder. In that tournament, he recorded a .913 save percentage and 3.57 GAA. He was listed as the Best Player of the Game for his team twice during the course of the championship.

Soberg was recently selected by the Washington Capitals in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2011 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
