The Great Plains College SunDogs are looking for a new men’s volleyball coach following Jason Loewer’s resignation to accept a new job in Edmonton.

Loewer leaves after two seasons, during which the SunDogs became contenders at the provincial level and beyond. They won the Prairie Athletic Conference championship in 2009 and were silver medalists at the 2010 Western Canadian College Open Volleyball Championship.

The SunDogs have built a reputation for success, thanks in no small part to Jason’s hard work over the past two years,” said athletics coordinator Mary Jane Benesh. “We’re extremely grateful for his commitment and contributions, and wish him all the best.”

Many of the building blocks for another successful season are already in place, as several graduates of the No. 1-ranked Swift Current Colts high school team have committed to join a small group of returnees at GPC for the 2011 season. More recruits will be announced in the coming weeks.

With such a talented, young group coming in, volleyball and leadership experience are two qualities we’ll look for in our new coach,” said Benesh. “Swift Current has a strong volleyball community and we’re very optimistic about finding the right fit for our program.”
