Swift Current Indians closer Joey Evans, left fielder Shawn Lee, and right-handed pitcher Taylor MacDonnell are the Western Major Baseball League club’s three stars for the week ending June 18. (Players are listed with college/hometown.)

FIRST STAR – Joey Evans (Texas Wesleyan University/Tyler, Texas)

Joey Evans spent most of last week overpowering opposing batters, striking out 12 of them over six innings in four appearances. The right-handed pitcher allowed just two hits and no earned runs while picking up his league-leading third and fourth saves of the season. Evans was previously named the Indians’ third star for the week of June 12.

SECOND STAR – Shawn Lee (Bellevue University/Gosnell, Ark.)

The fifth-year Indian broke out of an early-season slump in a big way this past week, raising his batting average nearly 80 points and recording an on-base percentage of .500. Lee’s best game came June 15 when he was 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and his first stolen base of the season in an 8-6 win over the visiting Yorkton Cardinals.

THIRD STAR – Taylor MacDonnell (Vancouver Island/Swift Current, Sask.)

The hometown boy tossed seven innings over two relief appearances without allowing an earned run this past week, while recording his first two wins of the season. MacDonnell struck out seven opposing batters in all, picking up the W in a 3-2 win June 13 over the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets and an 8-6 win June 15 over Yorkton.
