Adam Paulencu (Sherwood Park, Alta.) is a Swift Current Indians' pitcher no more.

Paulencu was drafted June 7 by the San Francisco Giants. Word came down Sunday night that he made it official by signing with the MLB club Saturday.

Paulencu is expected to report to Arizona for a physical this week and then report to the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes of the Northwest League. Paulencu spent two seasons with the Indians prior to being drafted. His contributions to the club will be recognized in a brief ceremony prior to Tuesday’s home game against the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets.
He had a 2.13 ERA over 25.1 innings in 2009 and was nothing short of dominant in 2010, throwing 17 regular-season innings and three more in the playoffs without allowing an earned run as the Indians won their first WMBL title since 2006. In all, Paulencu struck out 30 batters while only walking nine and registering a team-high three saves in 2010. Paulencu last played this spring with the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners, whom he leaves as the clubs all-time strikeout leader with 158 in 158 innings pitched.
