It didn’t take long for Joey Evans to dust himself off.

After getting rocked for four runs in limited work last week against Okotoks, the Swift Current Indians pitcher earned his first win of WMBL season Monday and followed up tonight by retiring all three Edmonton batters he faced to earn the save in a 6-3 Indians win over the visiting Prospects (2-5). Evans had big shoes to fill, following Chad Jones to the Mitchell Field mound, after Jones struck out four Prospects in two innings of work.

As in their previous two wins, both at home, the Indians (3-2) had to come from behind for the victory. Edmonton led 3-0 after their half of the second inning but it was all Swift Current from there. The Indians replied with two runs in the bottom of the second inning and scored four runs on four hits and two walks in the sixth to take the lead for good. Shortstop Collin Hetzler was 2-for-3 with two RBI for Swift Current, while catcher Josh Rapacz and centre fielder Brennan Peterson also drove in two runs each.

The Indians have a couple of rare days off before travelling to Medicine Hat on Friday for a date with the Mavericks. They’ll visit the Saskatoon Yellow Jackets on Sunday before returning home for a four-games-in-four-nights home stand that begins Monday against Lethbridge.
