The Swift Current Indians left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning as they lost their season opener 8-6 to the Okotoks Dawgs June 1.

The Indians and Dawgs were in a defensive battle through the first five innings with the Tribe leading 3-1 at that point. The wheels came off the team in the sixth, however, when Okotoks rallied for four runs.

Kirk Haviland tied the game at five in the bottom of the sixth with a two-run home run, but the Indians gave up three runs over the next two innings to trail 8-5.

They added another run in the bottom of the ninth when Shawn Lee walked with the based loaded, but Shaun Hoover popped out to second base to end the game.

Swift Current (0-1) appeared to be a bit rusty in the field, committing five errors during the game.

The Indians will try to get their first win of the season June 2 in a rematch with the Dawgs at Mitchell. The first pitch will be thrown at 7:05 p.m.
