Chinook sports kicks off another year with volleyball starting in the division

SWAC senior volleyball leagues will begin soon. 


The boys’ side has five teams competing: Frontier, Hazlet, Ponteix, Shaunavon and Vanguard.
There are nine teams on the girls’ side: Eastend/Consul, Fox Valley, Frontier, Gull Lake, Hazlet, Herbert, Maple Creek, Shaunavon, Vanguard/Hodgeville.
The schedule for the first couple of weeks is:
• Girls — Sept. 13. Hosts include Fox Valley (guests Maple Creek, Eastend), Hodgeville (guests Hazlet, Shaunavon), Gull Lake (guests Herbert, Frontier).
• Boys — Sept. 14. Hosts include Vanguard (guests Ponteix, Frontier) and Hazlet (guest Shaunavon).
• Girls — Sept. 20. Hosts include Maple Creek (guests Fox Valley, Gull Lake), Frontier (guests Eastend, Hazlet), Herbert (guests Vanguard, Shaunavon).
• Boys — Sept. 21. Hosts include Ponteix (guests Frontier, Hazlet) and Shaunavon (guest Vanguard).
Games will start around 4:30-5 p.m.
High school football results:
• Sept. 6 — Indian Head 8 at Maple Creek 33;
• Sept. 7 — Lumsden 21 at Shaunavon 21;
• Sept. 9 — Caronport 79 at Gull Lake 98.
Upcoming football games:
• Sept. 15 — Moose Jaw Vanier at Swift Current Colts 7 (Thursday night under the lights);
• Sept. 15 — LCBI at Gull Lake 4 p.m.;
• Sept. 16 — Lumsden at Maple Creek 4 p.m.
Soccer leagues will start for both the Swift Current Ardens and Colts. Both will take part in the Moose Jaw Soccer League.
First game for the Ardens is Tuesday, Sept. 13 when they host Moose Jaw Peacock. First game for the Colts is Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they also host Moose Jaw Peacock.
The SWAC district golf championship was scheduled to take place Tuesday, Sept. 13 in Ponteix.
