Swift Current Broncos Julius Honka selected 14th overall by the Dallas Stars

Swift Current Broncos defenceman Julius Honka has been selected 14th overall by the Dallas Stars in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

 

Honka was picked 32nd overall by the Swift Current Broncos in the 2013 CHL import draft.  In this rookie season with the Broncos Honka scored 10 goals and added 40 assists in 62 games.

The product of Jyvaskyla, Finland represented his country at the 2014 World Junior Hockey Championships in Sweden helping Finland to a gold medal.

“He’s an elite player going to a great organization” said Broncos coach and GM Mark Lamb. “I just spoke to his family and they are overjoyed that he was selected that high” added Lamb.

Honka becomes the first Broncos player drafted in the 1st round of the NHL entry draft since Nathan Smith in 2000.
