The Swift Current Broncos announced Monday that the Ottawa Senators have signed Broncos’ defenceman Maxime Lajoie to a three-year entry-level contract.

“It’s pretty awesome,” said Lajoie. “It was great to get it done and I’m really happy. I got to keep playing my game, keep improving and make sure to do what I need to do for the Broncos this season.”

The 18-year-old native of Calgary was selected by the Senators in the fifth-round, 133rd overall at the 2016 NHL Draft in Buffalo. Lajoie enjoyed a successful campaign last season for the Swift Current Broncos in which he recorded eight goals and 29 assists for 37 points in 62 games. Lajoie recently participated in Senators training camp before returning to the Broncos last week. He also attended the Senators’ rookie camp in London, Ont.

Lajoie has recorded 77 points (15 goals, 62 assists) and 54 penalty minutes in 138 career games with the Broncos and has served as an alternate captain for the last two seasons.
