Foremost winner of $50,000 from UFA contest

Foremost community members were all smiles Nov. 13 when they found out their small village had been chosen as the next recipient of $50,000 through the UFA’s Rural from the Roots Up Get ‘n’ Give contest.

It took 11 days and 104 volunteers to produce about 4,100 pails of cookie dough. The residents of Rolling Hills have resurrected a cookie dough fundraising program which had raised thousands of dollars every year to benefit the small community.

Soccer players young and old in the County of Newell will be pleased to hear an indoor soccer facility in the Village of Duchess may be ready to use by the fall of 2014.

Trustee Stuart Angle, who represents the Bow Island/Burdett area of Prairie Rose School Division (PRSD), will be the new board chairperson.

A family is celebrating this week, along with members of the small hamlet of Winnifred, as they enjoy a modern convenience many people take for granted.

The push is on this school year for parents and students of Seven Persons School to raise enough money to replace aging playground infrastructure.

The number of measles cases continues to climb
