Host community takes gold for the Southern Alberta Summer Games

After four full days of athletic and cultural competition in Medicine Hat, the Southern Alberta Summer Games concluded July 9 as Mayor Norm Boucher passed the Games flag to representative Loni Snow from Raymond.

Raymond will host the 2012 Southern Alberta Summer Games.



Team Medicine Hat finished on top with 418 medals. The Municipal District of Taber came in second with 259 medals, and Cypress County/Redcliff took home third with 176 medals.


Following are the results:

• MD of Cardston — 5 gold; 5 silver; 10 bronze; 20 total.

• Municipality of Crowsnest Pass — 13 gold; 19 silver; 14 bronze; 46 total.

• County of 40 Mile — 12 gold; 15 silver; 12 bronze; 39 total.

• City of Lethbridge — 57 gold; 49 silver; 28 bronze; 134 total.

• County of Lethbridge — 8 gold; 17 silver; 13 bronze; 38 total.

• City of Medicine Hat — 191 gold; 127 silver; 100 bronze; 418 total.

• County of Newell — 42 gold; 21 silver; 17 bronze; 80 total.

• County of Vulcan — 4 gold; 3 silver; 9 bronze; 16 total.

• MD of Taber — 91 gold; 94 silver; 74 bronze; 259 total.

• County of Warner — 10 gold; 7 silver; 4 bronze; 21 total.

• MD of Willow Creek — 36 gold; 35 silver; 12 bronze; 83 total.

• County of Cypress/Redcliff — 60 gold; 61 silver; 55 bronze; 176 total.

• MD of Pincher Creek — 20 gold; 14 silver; 8 bronze; 42 total.


“We are extremely pleased with how effectively and efficiently the Games were run, from the Games Coordination Office to the Directors, to the Sports Chairs and volunteers who withstood the sun and the wind and ran their competitions so seamlessly,” said Dr. Ken Sauer, director of administration for the host committee. “And of course, to the participants who made it all worthwhile. In the long run, we think everyone had fun.”
