Heavy rains on Sunday had forced the final day of the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede to be postponed until Monday night, but unsafe conditions in the infield have now cancelled the event with no alternate date set. Those people with Sunday ticket stubs will be refunded their money.

The dash for cash was set to  feature Evan Salmond who is looking for his first career win on the WPCA GMC Pro Tour, former Ponoka Stampede champion Obrey Motowylo, and 2012 Grande Prairie Stompede champion Jason Glass in the winner-take-all final that will determine the 2012 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede champion.

Saturday night at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede was the last night for drivers to try and qualify for Sunday's sudden death championship final heat. Track conditions were spectacular once again and the races ran under partly cloudy skies and a comfortable 18°C. When the night started seventeen drivers were within a second and a half of making it into the top three, but when the night ended Evan Salmond, Obrey Motowylo and Jason Glass made the cut and will make up Sunday's winner take all final.

In the overall aggregate standings, Evan Salmond qualified for his first career WPCA winner-take-all final in first place after recording a 3 day combined time of 3:03.68. Qualifying in second place overall was Obrey Motowylo followed by Jason Glass who jumped from eighth place overall to grab the third and final qualifying spot for Sunday's winner-take-all final. Mark Sutherland was hit with a one second penalty on day three and just missed qualifying for Sunday's final by 28 one-hundreds of a second. The winner of the sudden death final will be declared the 2012 Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede Champion.

As far as the day results are concerned, Gary Gorst, driving the HJR Asphalt Partnership outfit, posted a time of 1:01.21 from barrel number 2 in heat number 11, and won the day money by a mere 5 one-hundreds of a second over Troy Dorchester. Grant Profit was third, followed by Evan Salmond, with Cody Ridsdale, who would have won the day money had it not been for a one second penalty, settling for fifth place on the night.

On Saturday June 9th, during the chuck wagon race meet track veterinarians attended to horses involved in a mishap during the 8th heat. The veterinarians determined that one of the horses, owned by driver Doug Irvine, sustained a leg fracture.  There was no evidence of a collision and the track was in excellent condition so it was concluded that the most likely cause was a stress fracture brought on by the animals own strength and athletic capacity. Upon closer examination the track veterinarians  determined the best course of action was to euthanize the animal.
