The links will be red hot this week as the Calgary Flames have signed on as the platinum sponsor of Lethbridge College’s 33rd annual golf tournament. This marks the second straight year that the Flames have stepped up to the tee to play a major role in the tournament.

“The Flames are experts in teamwork and this partnership is another sign of that,” says Lethbridge College President and CEO Dr. Paula Burns. “We would like to thank the Flames for their support and participation in this fun annual event. With every drive, chip and putt, golfers are helping to support our Kodiaks student athletes as they gear up for another season of action.”

The tournament will be held on Thursday at the Lethbridge Country Club. Proceeds from the day go toward the college’s athletic programs and student awards, which ensure that those seeking a post-secondary education will have the support needed to achieve their life-changing goals.

As platinum sponsors, the Flames will have a major presence throughout the day. Famed Flames athletic trainer Jim “Bearcat” Murray and long-time NHL forward Dennis Polonich will appear at the tournament for a second straight year.

There will be a media availability with Murray and Polonich at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Lethbridge Country Club.

Golfers will have the chance to enter to win great Flames prizes and the day will culminate with two enticing live-auction items - a Kodiaks ultimate fan package including tickets and Kodiaks swag, and an incredible Calgary Flames dressing room experience package for four, which includes a tour of the Flames facilities and tickets to a game this season.

“The Calgary Flames and our foundation are proud to be involved in the Lethbridge College Golf Tournament again this year,” says Rollie Cyr, vice president of sales, ticket operations and customer service, Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. “The Calgary Flames Foundation has a mandate to improve the lives of southern Albertans through support of education. We are honoured to partner with an outstanding institution and provide these scholarships to students in the community that has supported the Calgary Flames for so many years.”

The Flames and Lethbridge College have another tie as well – the college is one of the institutions whose students are eligible to receive the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation Scholarships for post-secondary students in rural Alberta from the Calgary Flames Foundation. This year’s Lethbridge College scholarship recipients will be recognized at the golf tournament.

Lethbridge College’s Golf Tournament is the longest-running charity golf event in southern Alberta. The event has raised more than $200,000 to support student athletes and student awards over the last 32 years.

The college, and the tournament’s Presenting Sponsor, Avison Young Lethbridge Inc., are happy to announce that the tournament is sold out.
