Father’s Day weekend busy at southeast Alta. drag strip

There is a lot happening at the Medicine Hat drag strip this weekend.

Between Ladies Race Night on Friday and the annual Father’s Day Jet Car Show on Saturday, the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association (MHDRA) is bringing more racing action to southeast Alberta
Satisfy your need for speed with the MHDRA action packed weekend program including:
• Jet Cars will be displayed at Big M Ford Lincoln on Friday afternoon from noon to 4 p.m.
• Ladies Race Night on Friday: Calling all ladies with a need for speed! Join the MHDRA for Ladies Race Night on June 17 to put your pedal to the metal and learn about drag racing. Learn about the sport from local female race car drivers and have the opportunity to race your own vehicle.
All you need to race is $30, a helmet, a street legal car, a valid licence, and proof of registration and insurance. Program starts at 6 p.m.
• The Friday Night Street Legal program: everyone is invited to race the strip. All you need is $30, a helmet, a street legal car, a valid licence, and proof of registration and insurance.
Gates are open at 5 p.m., tech checks at 6 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.
• Saturday Race Day: The Prairieland Motorsport jet cars will be making passes through out the afternoon and into the evening. Saturday spectators entry is $20 and children 12 and under are always free. Racing action starts a 4 p.m.
• Sunday Race Day: Spend your afternoon outdoors while watching local drag racing starting at 1 p.m.
The MHDRA Drag Races go on the straight quarter-mile drag strip provides a safe and controlled environment under NHRA ruling for drivers to push their race cars to the limits.
Spectators can enjoy watching the races from the stands or at their own tailgate, grab a snack from the concession or an adult beverage from the Nitro Hut.
Children under 12 years of age always get in free and love playing at the playground.
Spectators have full access to the drivers’ pits where they can check out the cars and talk to the drivers themselves.
