Brooks to Host Pre-Tournament Game

The City of Brooks, on behalf of the Brooks Bandits, are proud to announce a 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship pre-tournament game between Latvia and Denmark will be held in Brooks on Dec. 22.

Tickets for the event are set to go on sale to Brooks Bandits season ticket holders starting today.

Edmonton and Calgary are acting as co-hosts for the World Junior Championship and Brooks is honoured to have been chosen by Hockey Canada as a site for a pre-tournament game.

“City Council is ecstatic about this upcoming opportunity to show off our community and we are very proud to have a facility capable of hosting the game,” says City of Brooks Mayor Martin Shields. “I hope this is the first of many high profile events held in Brooks.”

Officials with the Brooks Bandits are also looking forward to the event.

“The Brooks Bandits — proud members of the Alberta Junior Hockey League — are thrilled to be working with Hockey Canada to bring World Junior Hockey to Brooks for our fans,” says Brooks Bandits President Paul Seaton, on behalf of the Brooks Bandits Board of Directors. “This is an opportunity for our hockey club and community to be cast into an international spotlight and for our players to act as ambassadors for Canada.”

The Brooks Bandits organization, along with City officials, hope to see the Centennial Regional Arena packed with hockey fans enjoying this competition between Latvia and Denmark.

The community will also play host to the Latvian Team while they are in Canada. The City of Brooks and the Centennial Regional Arena will be home to these athletes for several days as they prepare to face the world in the World Junior Championship. The team will have the opportunity to practice at the CRA and potentially do some touring of the region.

Tickets for the pre-tournament game between Latvia and Denmark will go on sale to Brooks Bandits season ticket holders first on Wednesday, Oct. 26. Ticket sales will be open from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m., Oct. 26-28 and during the regularly scheduled Brooks Bandits games on Oct. 28-29. The general public can obtain tickets starting Monday, Oct. 31 at 9 a.m.

The ticket price for the game will be $25 and each ticket will be assigned a specific seat. General admission/standing room tickets will also be available.
