Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar (Calgary, AB) has been named the 2015-16 Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) Rookie of the Year, it was announced today, as the top first-year player among all 126 teams at the Canadian Junior A level.

The Brooks Bandits earned a spot in the 2016 RBC Cup national championship tournament on Sunday afternoon, downing the Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Portage Terriers 2-1 in the runner-up game of the Western Canada Cup.

The Brooks Bandits (4-0) became the first team in the history of the Western Canada Cup to start with an undefeated round robin record, downing the host Estevan Bruins (0-4) by a 6-4 final score on Thursday night at Affinity Place.

The Brooks Bandits (3-0) scored the second-most goals in a game in Western Canada Cup history, as the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) champions got by the defending national champion Portage Terriers (2-1-1) of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) by a whopping 9-3 margin on Wednesday night at Affinity Place.
