I have been studying different areas of water concerns since my university days.
I lived in Batchawana Bay and I am very connected to the importance of water and tourism.
I was outraged and impacted when I researched the Whitedog Reserve area to find that babies were being born with physical disabilities equivalent to the effect of “agent orange” caused by dioxin a chemical agent used in bleaching paper in the pulp and paper mills.
I am concerned about many environmental silencing processes that have happened within the Conservative government, i.e. monitoring Northern Ontario lakes for mercury poisoning and the pollution from Alberta’s tar sands polluting the Athabasca River.
I am passionate about advocating for responsibility around preserving our water sources and so should everyone else be.
It’s time for the federal government to implement the right to clean water in Canada by passing an environmental bill of rights that respects, protects and fulfils our right to a healthy environment, including the right to clean water.
