Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Drew Barnes very clearly refutes writer Adair Prouty’s assertion that Barnes is in favour of the Saskatchewan model that captures excessive payments to grazing reserve holders rather than the Alberta model that allows lease holders to receive these surface rights payments. Less clear is his actual position on these payments.
I note he did not refute the contention that these payments here in Alberta can be excessive. A little clarity please MLA Barnes.
Do you support the PC government’s current policy of allowing lease holders to get all of the surface rights payments (no matter how large) or do you think the excessive payments ought to go to the government?
Over to you Drew.
Eric Musekamp, Bow Island, President Farmworkers Union of Alberta
