Thumbs up to Herbert town council for rejecting the request from the City of Swift Current that Herbert support the City’s request for $481,000 towards Swift Current’s proposed long-term care facility.
This would have cost Herbert residents $634 per person (or $1,489 per household according to Herbert’s population (homes) stats.
The fact residents of Herbert had absolutely no say in the decision to destroy three perfectly sound facilities and rebuild on the outskirts of the city must be considered.
First off, there is nothing wrong with the existing facilities that upgrading wouldn’t fix. Secondly, the City of Swift Current made this decision all on its own. No other towns or villages had a say in the decision to build this care facility. Now they are being asked to pay.
Hopefully other towns and villages will follow Herbert’s lead — no say, no pay.
