June 12 is World Day Against Child Labour and Alberta has the dubious distinction of having the worst Child Labour Standards in Canada.

Alberta allows completely unfettered child labour in our second largest and most dangerous industry — agriculture.
This industry is completely exempt from all health, safety and child labour standards. There are no age or safety restrictions whatsoever. It’s a complete free for all.
The Farmworkers Union of Alberta joins with the newly-named Alberta Federation of Agriculture, calling for Occupational Health & Safety and paid child labour legislation to regulate the employment of children in Alberta’s agriculture industry.
