“Being mentally healthy means you feel good about life, you’re reaching your potential and you’re accomplishing your goals.” This is a quote I saw on Twitter from a local mental health agency.
I have never met a mental health consumer that feels this way, and not a lot of people, but maybe I am being cynical.
Of course it depends on the day, or the hour, but nobody feel this way all the time, do they. I feel good about life when I realize there are a lot of people who are worse off, and I am just glad I have enough to eat and a roof over my head.
I know I have a helped a lot of people in my life and I don’t worry about what more I can do or about what more I can accomplish, I just try to do my best every day. I keep my goals simple, like getting out of bed every day. Everything else is gravy, it’s an accomplishment.
It’s not like the stuff I have to do is going to done by someone else there are no little elves in my life. I get a lot done when I am manic (it is spring, I am manic). And when I am depressed a bit of it piles up, it will get done eventually.
My point is take life day by day and moment to moment and function best we can. I do not worry about what good mental health is anymore. I am just happy that I am here and functioning.
