The Swift Current RCMP has investigated reports about a suspicious person around Ashley Park School.

“We had some reports of a suspicious person around the school and it's been investigated,” Sgt. Michelle Kenke said. “We haven't been able to substantiate anything.”

Kenke reminded parents and students to take some precautionary steps to ensure that students are safe when they walk between their homes and school.

“Make sure that they use a buddy system, that they don’t go with anyone other than their parents unless they have a pre-arranged signal or code word or something like that advising that it’s OK,” she suggested.

The Chinook School Division did not have any comments on the RCMP investigation.

“We don’t comment on reports in regards to our students,” Communications Coordinator Joanne Booth said. “Our job is to protect them, so we don’t comment on anything like that.”

She confirmed that a note was sent out to students to provide them with safety tips for walking from home to school.

“The note that was sent out was a standard reminder for all of our elementary city students,” she mentioned.
