Emergency services personnel were busy early Friday morning near Swift Current.

Friday morning at approximately 3:53 a.m., the Swift Current Rural and City Detachment members were dispatched to a Vehicle on fire at the Transport City Esso Service station located on Highway # 1 near Swift Current.

Upon arrival it was observed that the lead tanker of a semi-unit carrying a full load of gasoline and diesel fuel was on fire within close proximity of the business fuel pumps.

The Swift Current Rural Fire Department attended to the scene and was able to quickly extinguish the blaze. For precautionary measures the adjacent building had been evacuated and Highway # 1 blocked to the traffic by the Department of Highways. With the Fire Department having the situation under control the traffic was flowing again on the #1 highway by 04:30 a.m. No injuries were reported.

There was no fuel spill, nor was there any environmental concerns noted from this incident.  The only damage sustained were to the tanker itself.  The circumstances of the fire continue to be investigated by the Swift Current RCMP.
