Whenever a person, organization or building celebrates a century in existence, it is an accomplishment to be recognized and lauded. It’s no different for those people at the First United Church in Swift Current, who will mark the 100th Anniversary of the First United Church Sanctuary Oct. 20-21.

According to some information provided by Sharyn Erne, when the building was first built it was known as Knox Presbyterian Church. Back in the mid-1940s the Presbyterian and the Metropolitan Church amalgamated. In 1944, it was officially known as Swift Current United until in 1958 it was officially known as First United Church. The Christian Education Centre was added in 1962 and years later another big addition — Metropolitan Place — was added.
It will be an enjoyable celebration for everyone involved. The church’s office manager Rhonda Lotochinski said there were about 90 tickets sold so far to the dinner with more expected. Everyone was looking forward to the tours of the church
