The Public Health department of the Cypress Health Region has declared there is an Outbreak situation has been declared for the Swift Current Care Centre, under the direction of the Consulting Medical Health Officer.   Unfortunately visitor restrictions have been implemented at the facility until further notice.

Of note:

·         As of this morning, 3 long term care residents and 1 staff member have been identified as experiencing ‘norovirus-like’ signs and symptoms.

·         Samples have been collected and are on route to the Saskatchewan Disease Control Laboratory in Regina for testing.  Results are anticipated at some point over the weekend.

·         Visitor restriction guidelines – as every effort is being made to eradicate the virus, the facility will not be able to allow visitation until further notice.  The only exception to this guideline is in the case of extenuating circumstances where ‘end of life’ situations are in place … in these situations, families can call ahead to the facility and speak to the Nurse in charge to discuss the options available.

·         The Cypress Health Region would like to remind the public of the importance of frequent and proper handwashing and staying home when ill, as everyone plays a vital role in preventing the spread of illness and viruses.

·         The region’s Infection Control Team are involved with this situation and have already implemented enhanced cleaning processes, in an attempt to stay on top of the virus and eliminate the risk of its spread to other residents or the community.
