A new partnership between the Swift Current Broncos and Living Sky Casino promises to bring big-name entertainment to the city each fall, starting with Grammy Award-winning country music star Dwight Yoakam.

The Kentucky native, who is set to release his latest album 3 Pears next month, will be the headline performer at the first-ever Autumn Fun Fest at the  Swift Current Mall Sept. 14.
The outdoor event in the mall’s parking lot will also feature up-and-coming Texas-born country singer JT Hodges and several local artists.
Dianne Sletten, the Swift Current Broncos assistant general manager for business operations, and Living Sky Casino General Manager Lionel Tootoosis made the event announcement at the casino Aug. 13.
“We think it’s going to be a great annual event for
Swift Current to go on for many, many years,” Sletten said. “It’s a big name that’s coming to our community and we’re very excited about it.”
Tootoosis said the Living Sky Casino is happy to be part of the event through their Broncos partnership.
“We’ve been looking at doing this for some time,” he noted. “We’re about fun and excitement and who else better to partner with than the Broncos. So we’re very happy to have something like this coming to Swift Current and we’re both about fun and excitement.”
Tickets, at $70 each, went on sale Aug. 15. Sletten said the intention is to fill the parking lot with music fans.
“Those outdoor events can be so much fun, if anybody has ever gone to Craven or some of the outdoor festivals,” she mentioned. “That’s what we were looking for, to create a bigger event that just bring people in from all over the southwest and hopefully the province and that’s what the casino is looking for too.”
According to Sletten, the Autumn Fun Fest is part of efforts by the Broncos organization to expand its event management experience into other entertainment areas.
“Hockey is of course our number one and that’s coming soon too, but this is a great kind of kick-off to the season,” she said. “We’re looking at making our franchise viable and if we have to look at some alternative measures as well, those are the things we’re looking at.”
For Tootoosis the new event fits in with the casino’s goal to promote Swift Current as an entertainment destination.
“We want to be on the map, we want people thinking about Swift Current as a destination and this will definitely do that,” he said.
Gates will open at 4 p.m. on Sept. 14 and entertainment will start at 6 p.m. Sletten said two or three local artists will perform before JT Hodges will take to the stage as the opening act for Dwight Yoakam.
Hodges has released two singles  and he  joined Toby Keith’s 2011 Locked and Loaded tour. His debut album is due for release Aug. 21.
Yoakam, who has been a singer-songwriter since the early 1980s, has sold more than 25 million albums worldwide. He has 12 gold albums and nine platinum or multi-platinum albums.  Five albums have topped Billboard's country albums chart and another 14 made the Top 10. He also recorded 22 singles on the Top 20. He has won two Grammys and earned 21 nominations.
Tickets can be purchased at the Broncos souvenir store, The Stable, or by phoning 306-773-1509.
