Earlier this week, the City of Swift Current advised residents and motorists that Chaplin Street West will be closed from Central Avenue North to 1st Avenue Northwest.

This closure is necessary to facilitate the conversion from overhead to underground power lines in the downtown core.
It is anticipated that the closure will be in place for approximately seven to ten days, and detours will be in place for the duration of the work.
Please refer to the following Detour Map (pictured at right) for specific detour plans.
“It’s a short-term pain, long-term gain scenario,” said Mitch Minken, General Manager of the City’s Infrastructure and Operations Division.
“While this will be a minor, temporary inconvenience for some motorists, the result of the work will be a much safer, more aesthetically-pleasing downtown area, and we’ll be able to significantly increase the lifespan of our power line assets at the same time.”
The City would like to remind residents and motorists to drive with caution in and around construction zones, and to extend our appreciation for their patience during this project.
