The symptoms of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are more than just abdominal pain, exhaustion, and frequent, urgent trips to the washroom. These diseases are chronic, can be debilitating, and their symptoms can make it hard for people living with them to talk about their condition.

The Gutsy Walk is a chance for the people living with Crohn’s or colitis, and the  people who care about them, to come together for a day of understanding, open conversations, and fun.
The Swift Current Gutsy Walk will be held June 3 — in conjunction with Innovation Credit Union’s Picnic in the Park which is at Riverside Park, South Railway Avenue and 6th Ave SE
This year the Swift Current Gutsy Walk is being organized by new co-chairs, Nathan and April Stang, who are excited to run their first event.  “My wife April and I have been volunteering our time to Crohn’s and Colitis for over two years now,” said Stang. “We were approached to co-chair this year and we immediately jumped on board! We feel this is one thing we can do to help raise awareness for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBD) and show our support to all those suffering from them.”
The Stangs’ daughter was diagnosed with Chrohn’s Disease at a young age, so the cause is very important to the couple. “While working through and understanding the diagnosis our daughter was given, we realized that these diseases don’t get a lot of attention and we wanted to do more to help bring awareness to them,” said Stang. “As a family that lives with this disease first hand, we understand how hard this is to deal with and how strong anyone dealing with the disease truly is.”
The family-friendly, 5-kilometer fundraising walk helps Crohn’s and Colitis Canada advance research and patient programs to better the lives of everyone affected by these chronic diseases.  The event begins with registration at 12 p.m. and the walk gets underway at 2 p.m.
Following the walk, there will be a social event including refreshments, door prizes and fun activities for everyone involved.
